Bring the girls, enjoy a mimosa, and choose a fabulous style to suit your soiree!
And brides, don’t forget that this is also the perfect opportunity for you to scoop up a gorgeous shower or rehearsal dinner design at a discount!
We have recently revised our store hours slightly during this event, to not only provide our maids more time to shop, but so that we can join you at the Bad Obsession Cocktail Party being hosted by Micheal Maler Photography and our own, Beneath the Gown on Thursday May 10! Our store hours on Wednesday, May 9th are 12-8 and on Thursday, May 10th are 11-6:30. Ring us at 860.669.4596 for an appointment!
*Keep in mind, bridesmaids do not need to be present for purchase to be made (we can take payment over the phone) and measurements can be provided at a later designated date.
We have been reading Shades of Grey and it has put us ‘in the mood’ for the sexy event being hosted by our friends at Maler Photography! We hope you can join us at Maler’s studio on Thursday, May 10th from 6-8 as we celebrate the recent creative collaboration between our very own, in WHITE member, Beneath the Gown, and Maler.
In order for us to attend the event, we will be changing our store hours slightly on May 9th and 10th. We will be closing earlier than usual on Thursday May 10th at 6:30 pm, therefore, our store hours on Wednesday May 9th will be 12 – 8 pm. Be sure to use this time to take at advantage of our bridesmaid event that we have extended to start Wednesday May 9th!

We are thrilled that one of our stunning brides was featured on style me pretty yesterday! We had the opportunity to provide the accessories for Lauren Ann’s wedding to Pete at the Saybrook Point Inn last September. Don’t you think she looked stunning?! Our current ‘Ask the experts’ feature is with friend of The White Dress by the shore, Ryan Designs. Erik and Christen Ryan are a husband and wife team who exude talent, creativity and taste- and are two of the nicest people you will ever meet! We wanted to introduce you to this incredible duo, not only because they are FABULOUS! But, because their niche in the industry is unique and often times understood. Below is an interview that hopefully will allow you to appreciate their talents as much as we do!
You are not an event planner, you are not a florist…how do you describe what you do?
You are absolutely right! We are not event planners or florists. We typically describe our business as “interior design for events”. We focus on three areas of expertise: specialty furniture, decorative lighting, and fabric draping and custom textiles. We love any opportunity to create or design custom pieces to make an event feel completely personalized and unique.

How did you get started in this business?
We are both third generation entrepreneurs – both of our parents and grandparents owned their own businesses – so it was definitely in our blood to do our own thing. After we got married we realized there was an opportunity to provide a more personalized service and product. Plus we love being creative and we love working with people – so it’s an excellent fit for us. And we love working together – we are a very good team.

Do you have a signature style for décor?
I think our personal style is eclectic – tailored and traditional with a modern, bohemian, beachy twist. We love to mix it up! But professionally we try to stay neutral so that we can embrace what our clients need and create a look that fits them. That is actually part of the fun of this business – we get to play with a lot of different styles. For example, we may not be ultra modern – but it is exciting to get to experiment and live in it for a little while as we work with different clients.

What is the most unique space that you have provided décor for?
We have been fortunate to work in some amazing places (another perk!) but probably the most unique space has to be the Antique Car Exhibit at Heritage Museums and Gardens on Cape Cod. It was the weekend of Hurricane Irene and the couple was planning this gorgeous, romantic, garden style wedding. Because of the flooding, their tent could not go up and they had to relocate to a Historic Car Museum. Maybe not what some would consider romantic – but their attitudes were truly awesome! The whole family was just so kind and they were so excited to be together! We provided some rice paper lanterns, cozy lounge seating, and lots of candles. In the end it all worked out and they had a great time!

Last week we attended bridal market in New York City and were thrilled with the new trends that emerged! It was all about feminine details- which of course, is right up our alley! Here are a few of our faves:
Sleeves were everywhere on the runways- from long sleeve to cap sleeve and many lengths in between! Here are a few of our favorites that we can’t wait to come into our store!
The interest in necklines has shifted from the décolletage of a strapless neckline, to the back. We saw many dramatic backs grace the runway, and loved every minute of it!
The fabric d’jour was lace, which lended itself beautifully to the high necklines that many of our designers were showing.
Several designers showed peplum silhouettes. Our favorites were from Amsale!
We see the new trend in accessories as the statement necklace. Amsale did an amazing job incorporating statement necklaces into the design of her gowns! The results were absolutely gorgeous!

In addition to sleeves, we came across a plethora of adorable coverage options- from lace jackets and boleros to stunning raw silk coats, to our fave- the bridal sweater, courtesy of Ivy and Aster.

Stay tuned for the announcement of when these beauties begin to arrive!
We had the absolute pleasure of dressing Twilight star, Ashley Greene, in a bridesmaid dress for a wedding party that she was in last weekend!
The bride only required that her maids choose a dress in a shade of green for the spring nuptials and we were thrilled to help choose the perfect one for Ashley . Owner Beth Chapman selected a gorgeous Ivy & Aster gown called ‘La la Lovely’ in a beautiful sage hue and worked directly with designer, Jessica Brown to get it altered and delivered to Ashley in time!
The starlett , escorted by fellow celeb Nick Jonas, looked stunning. We are so honored to have been a small part of such a big day.
Which celebrity would you like to see us dress next?
