We’ll be closed Saturday, September 1st for Labor Day

*image via Serendipity Magazine, April/May 2011

We will be closed Saturday, September 1st to celebrate the last moments of summer, as we hope you’ll do as well. We will resume normal business hours Tuesday, September 4th. Stay tuned to the blog in the coming weeks- this season will be bustling with plenty of offers and events that you won’t want to miss!

The image above left us feeling inspired about the coming season and beautiful beginnings, as we enter into our most plentiful month of weddings. It was captured over fifty years ago in 1961 in front of the Margaret Roman Catholic Church in Madison, CT. The photo features the parents of our client and editor of Serendipity magazine, Kate Nann, who tied the knot last September.

Enjoy the holiday!

Picture of the Week

We just couldn’t choose one image this week so in celebration of this special and exciting week we have TWO pictures of the week to share with you…

The first is to celebrate our feature on 100 Layer Cake  of our ‘Secret Garden’ shoot. We adore this image featuring a gorgeous gown design from Ivy & Aster, a necklace from ADORN by Samouce, beauty by Jennie Fresa, hair by Jennie Kay, and shoes by Badgley Mischka.  This beautiful shot was captured by photographer Carla Ten Eyck   at a new stunning venue, in The Gardens at 222  in Ledyard, Connecticut. The floral draped bench was designed and created by the ever-talented Tony Palmeri of  Datura: a modern garden  and styled by Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore.

Our second picture is to celebrate our Bridesmaids Open House taking place tonight from 5-8 pm and the introduction of our latest service- a unique shopping experience for maids- The Bridesmaid Soiree.

 This image was shot by photographer Carla Ten Eyck and styled by Beth Chapman with beauty  by d.d. Nickel. The table design was by Jubliee Events with  flowers from Datura: a modern garden.  A Little Imagination Cakes designed the charming cupcakes and Coren Moore provided the fabulous frocks!  Images from this precious shoot have been seen in Bliss Celebrations Magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings and Town and Country.

What we are loving: Bridesmaid Gift Ideas!

Bridesmaids are an intregal part of your wedding day- they support you, help you into your gown, make sure your lipstick isn’t on your teeth, and (hopefully) help keep you cool, calm and collected. This blog post is dedicated to all the little things that you can give them as a display of your gratitude, love and companionship.

But before we get to gifts let us show you some fabulous ideas to ask your ‘best girls’ to be your ‘best maids’ in the first place…

Part One: {“Will you be my bridesmaid?”}

*image by Abbey Scott

We wanted to share the adorable way our White Carpet bride, Christine, asked her friends to be her maids. We love the looks on their faces as they read the inside of these vintage inspired cards.

These custom accordion books by fellow inWHITE member, Coral Pheasant Stationary and Design are just fab! We love the bold colors and prints- what a fun little thing to slip to your girls during a night out on the town. Plus its so pretty- they’ll hold onto it forever!

We love a good piece of jewelry- and what better way to ask you girls “will you help me tie the knot?” in style. This bracelet was both found on Pinterest!

We couldn’t do this post without featuring our latest obsession- handkerchiefs. What a sweet sentiment!  This version, also found on pinterest, would be perfect to send in a sweet little package for your long distance friends.

Look at these cards we found on Etsy- so sweet and easy!

Part Two: {Gifts for the Girls}

The White dress by the shore is known as the place you are sure to find your gown, mother of the occasion and maids dresses. But did you know we also have a plethora of amazing maids gifts right here on premisis? No need to stress about maids gifts, we have done the thinking for you! Take a look below to see what we have to offer.

One Pearl is a fabulous jewelry line which donates 100% of its proceeds to childrens’ and educational charities. The pieces are manufactured in Connecticut and a single large pearl represents the message of giving while looking rather chic and fashionable. These bracelets and necklaces can be made in a variety of different colors and customizations, you can even get earrings to match! If you love a gift that will look great and give back then this is it!

Solemates are a fabulous treat for a maid in an outdoor wedding. Slip these on your girls’ shoes before its time to roll and they will have no problem walking around in even the most saturated of ground. These tiny plastic heel coverings distribute your weight more evenly- providing a ‘no-sink’ stiletto. We love these things as they have saved many of our shoes and we are thrilled to now be carrying them in the boutique! This would be the ‘icing on the cake’ to any bridesmaid gift!

We are so lucky to share our antique home with  fellow inWHITE member, Beneath the Gown.  Not only can you score the perfect undergarment for your big day and your honeymoon but you can also pick up some great little treats for your maids!  BTG carries the sweetest hanky pankies with jeweled with ‘maid’ or ‘maid of honor’, a fabulous frock for getting ready (also with customizable lettering) and the more comfortable little flip flop for before (or after) the vows. Give them at ring at 860.304.7399 to schedule an appointment.

One of the most wonderful gifts around- our Bridesmaids Contribution Gift Card. We feel that there is nothing more important than a maid feeling comfortable, confident and pretty in her dress. What better way to facilitate that feeling than by contributing a portion of the cost of each gown to your girls. We will box up these gorgeous gift cards with your designated information on the back and you can present them to your girls -this would be an awesome way to pop the question!

Classic, creative and highly customizable- A q u i n n a h jewelry is exclusively carried at The White Dress by the shore and handmade by our very own, Kelley Solomon. We think these lockets are nothing sort of darling for your maids- a precious keepsake for those closest to you. Check out the A q u  i n n a h website for even more spectacular sparkles, you’re sure to be inspired and find something perfect for  you and for your maids. Ring us at 860.669.4596 to coordinate a one on one consultation with Kelley.

Musings of a Stylist: {Modern Ocean House}

Our latest Musings of a Stylist  Inspiraiton Page is up on the site. This stylized shoot was part of Collaborate and Create, a seminar put together by Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events and photographer, Carla Ten Eyck.  The seminar, which took place at the magical Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, was created to assist photographers and event planners in developing the skills to produce a collaborative, stylized shoot. Candice, Carla and I have been partnering for years, so it was fun for me to work with some new talents during the seminar.

The vision for the shoot was a contemporary take on a quintessential, New England, beachside wedding. The tablescape was designed by Candice Coppola and was executed by Kelli Burg of Simply Beautiful Events. Candice used a classic blue and white toile linen and incorporated pops of color through the flowers and festive paper pom-poms positioned on the backs of the chairs. The contemporary feel was reflected in the clean lines of the centerpieces designed by Tony Palmeri of Datura: a modern garden, which were birch cylinders holding branches, fun balls of green trick dianthus, bright orange ranunculus and blue delphinium. Tony was also responsible for the incredible vine orb that decorated the alter at the ceremony site.

The ‘bride and groom’ are a real couple who have been since been married. We had the extreme honor of dressing the bride Mandy, who has been our muse for several shoots, for her Costa Rican nuptials last summer.

When planning the fashion for the shoot, I followed the contemporary inspiration and selected a clean, simple cotton gown by Vineyard Collection by Priscilla of Boston. I brought in a pop of color through the dahlia that Mandy wore in her hair and a custom necklace by bella Perlina that was designed specifically for the project.
