Spring 2013 Bridal Market Trends

The Rivini  Runway Show Finale

Last week we attended bridal market in New York City and were thrilled with the new trends that emerged!  It was all about feminine details- which of course, is right up our alley! Here are a few of our faves:

Sleeves were everywhere on the runways- from long sleeve to cap sleeve and many lengths in between!  Here are a few of our favorites that we can’t wait to come into our store!

Back Interest
The interest in necklines has shifted from the décolletage of a strapless neckline, to the back. We saw many dramatic backs grace the runway, and loved every minute of it!

High Necklines
The fabric d’jour was lace, which lended itself beautifully to the high necklines that many of our designers were showing.

Several designers showed peplum silhouettes.  Our favorites were from Amsale!

Statement Necklaces
We see the new trend in accessories as the statement necklace.  Amsale did an amazing job  incorporating statement necklaces into the design of her gowns!  The results were absolutely gorgeous!

Coverage options
In addition to sleeves, we came across a plethora of adorable coverage options- from lace jackets and boleros to stunning raw silk coats, to our fave- the bridal sweater, courtesy of Ivy and Aster.

Stay tuned for the announcement of when these beauties begin to arrive!

The TWD Girls Visit Amsale Studio in NYC

Yesterday our staff had the absolute pleasure of visiting Amsale’s New York showroom.  Amsale is one of the few design houses that designs and produces all of their gowns in-house in New York.  Amsale Aberra launched her signature bridal collection in the late 80’s after getting married herself and recognizing the need for fashionable, sophisticated and timeless gowns.   The Amsale brand now also manufactures and designs the Christos and Kenneth Pool collections.

We received a behind-the-scenes tour of the showroom and production areas and were able to witness patterns being made, gowns being cut and sewn, beaders hand-sewing crystals one by one onto gowns and most importantly, we got a sneak peak on some of the new designs that will be gracing the runway in April!

During our visit, we learned that an individual pattern is made for every single gown that is produced.  It was amazing to watch the staff in pristine white coats draping and sewing each gown one at a time- each one, a unique masterpiece.

The highlight of our day was meeting the talented designer behind the brand, Amsale Aberra.  She spoke with us in depth about her vision for creating modern, elegant gowns.  She said that she hates to be asked about what the current trends are.  She does not believe in trends.  She believes in creating gowns that are timeless and that a bride can confidently look back on in 10, 20 or 50 years and still love!  She gave us a sneak peak at some of the stunning creations that she is working on for her latest collection and also gave us a glimpse into her design process.

Here are a few behind-the scenes shots of the workroom:

Left: A craftsman hand beading a Christos gown. Right: A seamstress hand draping a bridesmaid dress.

Left: Each bride gets her own pattern, printed from this state of the art machine. Right: A seamstress pulling together the elements of a stunning Amsale gown.

After our tour, we were treated to a delicious Italian meal with Amsale, her husband Neil and our sales rep, Saundra, at Amsale’s favorite restaurant.

The White Dress lovely’s from left to right- manager Rachel Renzetti, Jill, owner Beth Chapman, Anneke, Abbey, Shana and Kelly in front of Amsale’s favorite little Italian eatery.

It was truly a day we will never forget!
