Get to know Sara Gabriel | TWD Accessories Designer
Our next accessories Trunk Show is fast approaching, and with the designer herself joining us for it, we wanted our brides to get to know Sara Gabriel. (PS- She will be here for the Feb. 23 & Feb. 24)
Denver-based designer Sara Gabriel learned how to sew from her mother when she was a child. Her eponymous label began as a bespoke service in 2000, when she designed her first veil for a friend, and while the company has grown exponentially, the spirit remains: each piece is made entirely by hand, one at a time, from beginning to end. Using Swarovski crystals, French lace, freshwater pearls, and silk organza, her delicate designs are influenced by modern brides and vintage detailing. Read below about the designer from her point of view!
“The official story (the one I’ll tell if I’m pressed for time) is that I launched Sara Gabriel, my namesake company, in July of 2000 in my tiny Denver apartment. But if you have the time I’ll tell you the real story. My company started when I was 5 years old sitting by my mother who was teaching me to use her sewing machine, and when I was eleven traveling around the country in my dad’s VW camper bus, cross-stitching glittering mermaids to pass the time. It also started in high school when I began obsessing over everything that sparkled, or was even tangentially related to weddings. Like all true loves, mine feels like it has been with me my entire life, and I can honestly say that getting to wake up every day and make women feel beautiful is deeply fulfilling and an unbelievable dream come true.”
“Having grown my tiny company into one of the most sought-after, and recognizable brands in the industry, I am committed to staying true to my roots. I create my designs in the most difficult way possible: completely by hand, one at a time, and just for you from beginning to end. Every veil is individually cut, every crystal is hand placed, and every lace appliqué attached one at a time, just like the first pieces I made over 18 years ago. Not everyone does it this way but I believe that the care, and love, my team and I put into each piece will show from the moment you open your box to the moment you walk down the aisle!”
“I design my collection each year with one eye on traditional elements that grant a timeless quality to the brides who wear them, and the other eye on free-thinking, spirited brides who know who they are and want their personality to show. I want every one of my brides to sparkle and shine in her own way, and I use glittering Swarovski crystals, classic French laces, refined construction techniques and the softest veiling tulle imaginable to ensure they do. Ultimately, I’m inspired by you!” ♥︎ – xoxo Sara

Classic Fall & Winter Plaid Wedding Inspiration
Anyone who knows us, knows that we are suckers for all things preppy, including plaid! We get giddy when our brides incorporate plaid into their weddings. We have pulled together some of our favorite classic preppy fall & winter plaid wedding inspiration from both our real brides and from our own styled shoots. A bride may chose to incorporate plaid into her wedding because she is a planning a preppy wedding or because the plaid is a family tartan and has significance. A little plaid can go a long way! Whether it is used in a wrap to keep the maids warm, in the grooms and groomsmen’s bowties, on the bride’s shoes (one of our faves), or on the wedding cake- we adore it all and are certainly “Mad for Plaid!” Click to see more of the prettys & inspiration from the Tartan Styled Shoot.

Getting married at a Brewery or looking for inspiration for an out-of-the-box-wedding? Then look no further for rustic inspiration than from this recent styled shoot that we we collaborated on at Hog River Brewery.
From Jubilee Events:
We came up with the idea to create an urban oasis when Anaise approached us to work on a shoot and had an amazing new venue in mind—Hog River Brewing Co. in Hartford, CT. The building is located in a bustling section of Hartford and it’s interior mirrors that same energy. Brick walls and concrete floors, lots of industrial fixtures and tall spacious ceilings with a laid back welcoming vibe are what you find inside.
It’s modern, fresh and edgy and we worked to create a design that fits with the look of the brewery while also bringing it to life with organic and natural elements. We kept the color story neutral—vivid green, white and concrete grey with mixed metals like copper, steel and gold. With hanging greenery installations, a living wall, modern and fresh drapery that incorporates new techniques (like dip dye and metallics) and bountiful floral details, we sought to create an oasis inside this industrial space. The looks comes together through the talents of Ryan Designs and Flowers by Justine, along with details from a local maker, Hartford Prints and local chalk artist Jaime LaDucer and some fresh new rental items from Peak Event Services, a division of Rentals Unlimited that is currently launching.
From TWD owner/stylist, Beth Chapman:
In order to offset the rustic vibe of the brewery, I selected fashion that was clean, modern and sophisticated. The long sleeve Antonio Gual crepe gown embodied both of those characteristics. The dramatic open back provided a little bit of edge and sex appeal. The reception dress from Blush by Hayley Paige carried through the sophisticated feel, but added a subtle touch of sparkle to signify that this indeed was a party! The deep red of the Amsale bridesmaid dress was the perfect compliment to the soft tones of the gorgeous florals by Justine.
