Musings of a Stylist: Winter Warmth, A Vermont Winter Wedding Shoot
Musings of a Stylist: Winter Warmth, A Vermont Winter Wedding Shoot
Dec 02, 2013
As far as we are concerned, there is nothing more romantic than a winter wedding! And being New Englanders, there is no better place for one than Vermont. This styled shoot encompassed all of the best parts of winter- cozy fabrics, interesting textures, fluffy white snow, comforting treats and warm snuggles. It was all about snow, sparkle and sweet sentiments!
In planning the fashion for the shoot, stylist and owner, Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore set out to embrace the cozy elements of winter, but to create contrasts:
âI had such fun playing with textures and taking traditional wedding elements and mixing them with wintery pieces. For the brideâs less formal look, I paired a cabled cashmere sweater from Elisabeth Hunter Cashmere with a statement necklace from Ivy and Aster and a custom blue tulle skirt from The White Dress by the shore. For the groomâs formal look, I styled a classic tuxedo from Valentino Tailors with a handmade vintage chunky scarf.
A brideâs attire should always be reflective of her venue-  even if you are getting married on a frozen lake! I layered various textures in shades of white for the brideâs look on the lake. It not only created beautiful dimension, but kept the model warm in the freezing temperatures! I paired a chunky cashmere turtleneck sweater from Elisabeth Hunter Cashmere with a Modern Trousseau fur bolero and tulle ball skirt. The look was completed with a cashmere beret accented with a stunning blue crystal brooch from Maria Elena.  â

âTexture played a major role in the design of the table for the Vermont Winter Wedding photo shoot. I was inspired by the various fabrics that fashion stylist Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the shore had chosen for the models. Cozy cable knit sweaters, brown leather boots and rhinestone belts parlayed into a nubby hand-woven jute runner and ivory chenille checkered overlay, wood scalloped chargers and glass plates molded with the subtle texture of finely woven cloth. Vintage china with blue laurel leaves and gold edging complemented the colors of the florals. One of my favorite elements of the table are the antique bone handled fish cutlery. The gorgeous pattern on the knives are a small but stunning detail.
For the paper story, texture translated into mixed typefaces, varied borders and a herringbone patterned envelope liner. I love the contrast of the quirky serif font paired with a classic serif typeface. A laser cut snowflake belly band added dimension and further emphasized the winter theme.â
Who says that flowers canât be beautiful in the winter? Floral designer, Tony Palmieri of Datura: A Modern Garden worked his magic to create beauty in bloom:
âFor the tablescape, we brought the indoors outside and set up a table in the crisp white snow. A hint of warmth was added to the wintry table with spring tulips, hyacinth and orchids, adding a lighter note to the heavier statements of thistle and hydrangea. No tablescape is complete without a chandelier! We adorned a vintage chandelier with white ginestra and pale blue hydrangea blooms.â
The piece de resistance of this shoot was the fabulous milk punch that kept us all warm during long cold days of shooting, prepared by Nichole of Coral Pheasant Stationery (scroll down for the recipe):
âMilk Punch goes particularly well with the inside warmth and soft light of winter holidays. The charred barrel flavors of bourbon and vanilla mix delightfully with milk. Egg nog be damned!â
