I have wanted to style a shoot with tartan details for some time. When I laid eyes on this adorable long sleeve floral lace dress from Modern Trousseau at October bridal market, I knew that I had the found the perfect gown to feature in a plaid shoot. I loved layering the textures of the floral lace pattern, soft tulle and classic Black Watch Plaid and collaborating with Stacie to incorporate them throughout the shoot. I worked with a company out of Scotland to create a Black Watch tartan bow belt to pair with a custom Modern Trousseau short tulle skirt. I completed the look with a navy on navy striped shirt from the Gap and created, dare I say, the sweetest bridesmaid look! My friends at Valentino Tailors made my dreams come true when they offered up a Black Watch tartan tuxedo for our male model to wear! It was plaid perfection! Event Planner, Stacie Shea and I loved showing how you can take one simple element and carry it throughout all of the details of your wedding- from the invitation, to the flowers, to the fashion! Here is some commentary from the lovely Stacie Shea weighing in on the concept of this stunning shoot: "The insanely talented Beth Chapman contacted me back in December completely motivated by all the snow that was set in our forecast for the month of January. We set out and decided we wanted to create a shoot inspired by the beauty of the outdoors, the abundant amount of winter snow we were getting and the beautiful coloring of the Scottish Black Watch plaid. Beth and I thought it was so important to show brides that plaid can be used throughout the winter season and even throughout the year. Many times plaid is reserved for the pre-Christmas and holiday time frame and we wanted brides to see the beauty and femininity in using this plaid paired with beautiful tulle throughout their wedding day. The tablescape did just that by tying together a large amount of textures, patterns and beauty all in one space. The white sequin tablecloth was draped with a tulle overlay to soften the sequins and give a small amount of shimmer to the table. We used beautiful gold chargers from Juliska tied with Black Watch Scottish tartan and dark forest green silk napkins. The table was adorned in beautiful stems with the inspiration being the anemone. Its dark center was a way to really pull in the dark nature of the plaid into our tablescape and floral design. The wedding cake we felt needed to reflect the romantic and extremely detailed aspects of the wedding dress. The bottom layer of the cake matched perfectly the floral lace pattern of the bodice of the Modern Trousseau dress. It was finished off with the perfect Black Watch tartan bow. The Winvian Resort and Spa was the perfect location for this shoot! It was a cold, foggy, snowy day in Connecticut, which only helped to complete the story of this shoot even more perfectly. The Gordon Brown room with its raw and exposed wood beams brought in the rustic elements we were hoping to have and to complete all the elements of the shoot. Its beautifully refurbished wood elements gave the tablescape and styling the exact pops that it needed to stand out and make this shoot so incredibly beautiful!" Want more from this shoot?
